TAMBOPATA (3 days / 2 nights)
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Posada Amazonas
At our arrival from Cusco, reception and transfer to Tambopata's fluvial dock, in Puerto Maldonado. After a short city tour to match the main interest places, we leave in a 2 hours aprox. trip, 1 hour on foot and half an tour in a out of board motorized boat to Posada Amazonas. Depending on plane´s arrival time, we are having a boxed lunch in the boat or we are having lunch in the lodging. During the trip we will be able to watch some bird species typical of the riversides, like rayadores, playeritos, crowned herons, jabirus, falcons, martinetes, swallows and atrapamoscas. At Posada Amazonas we unpack and familiarize with the lodging. Posada Amazonas is a lodge with 30 double rooms which provides comfort without being inharmonious with the environment. The lodging belongs to Tambopata's river Ese´eja native community and Rainforest Expeditions have the concession of the turistic operation for 20 years. We will receive a short informative announcement about this ecotourism project, unique in its class, as well as the general usages of the lodging and the paths, before to proceed to our afternoon's activity: Forest canopy watching tower 35 m high, located 15 minutes from the lodging. This tower was built in such a way that it is safe and easy to ascend it, using the stairs with banisters at each side and rest on its small platforms every 2 meters . From the top we have a great river view, and an opportunity to match birds Such as toucans, parrots and macaws too. Return to the lodging and dinner.
Day 2: Posada Amazonas
We get up at the dawn to visit the lake Tres Chimbadas. After breakfast, we leave early, fifteen minutes by boat and a half an hour walk take us to the lake's border. From here a catamaran and two native paddle boats will take us to a silent lake tour, to appreciate the lake fauna in its activities peak. We Hill search turtles, riverside birds, shanshos and perhaps some giant river otters, known as the biggest in the world. There was a time they were hunted due to their fine leather, nowadays the biggest populations are in the peruvian southeast. The ones we can see at the Tres Chimbadas lkae belong to a resident family of 9 individuals. As long as the noon arrives, the animal activity decreases and it is time to return to the lodging in time to visit a little parrots small colpa located at a short distance walking from the lodging. Tens and sometimes hundreds of blue head, orange cheek parrots, cobalt wings parroquet and some other times the strange rocks parroquets, all of them join here in the clear days to eat the colpa's clay. This meeting causes a noisy and colorful wild spectacle, where green, orange, red and blue parroquets dance around the colpa, meanwhile the other ones eat, this spectacle can last hours. Then we are going back to the lodging to have lunch, before leaving to our afternoon's activity an ethnobotanic walk. In this activity, we will visit the Infierno's native community ethnobotanic center, located 15 minutes far in boat from our lodging. From this center and store of the town, this community has registered the medicin plants usages from ancient ages, as well as its cultivation procedure and distribution during more than 10 years. We will walk the paths around the towncenter with a native guide, who will explain us the quotidian usages they give to the porest plants, in medicin, construction, food, fyber, etc. Then we will return to the lodging for dinner, an optional night walk to search inescts and amphibians.
Day 3: Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast very early we take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado and from there to the airport, just in time to the flight to Lima or Cusco.
